About Pittsburgh Baptist Temple

Pittsburgh Baptist Temple is an independent Baptist church located in Pittsburgh on top of scenic Mt. Washington overlooking the beautiful city of Pittsburgh. Our location is central and easily reached by all of Pittsburgh's residents. Students at our many quality Universities along with tourists and others needing public transportation, may take the Monongahela Incline at Station Square and ride to the top of Mt. Washington. There they may conveniently walk to the church.

The church was started in 1874 and incorporated in 1875 as "The First Regular Baptist Church of Mt Washington" during the great Sunday School movement and has been a " lighthouse on the hill " throughout the years. The church voted to change its name to Pittsburgh Baptist Temple to better represent the extent of our ministry. A dedication service and changing of the name was held on Sunday August 28,2022.

PBT is an integrated inner city church striving to reach the city of Pittsburgh with the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. We make no apology for taking a strong stand on the Word of God. All who come are welcome and greeted by warm and friendly people of our church. We are evangelistically missionary both in our city and around the world.

There are more than 15,000 independent Baptist churches in America and at least 10,000 independent Baptist missionaries serving on mission fields worldwide.

Every independent Baptist church is an autonomous congregation. We are self-governing and self-supporting. The head of the church is the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible is our sole authority for faith and practice. It is our desire to be a truly New Testament church.
